FRANDSEN - The man who designed the Ball lamp It all started back in 1968 as a modest business in the basement of his own home, where Benny Frandsen began designing lamps when he wasn’t busy earning extra cash in the military. Young and idealistic, he first made only the geometrical lamps that were his own favourites. He quickly discovered, however, that these weren’t selling well, and cast his efforts into round lamps. One of Frandsen’s first round lamps was the Ball series he created in 1969. The design was simple and functional, and Ball went on to become a design classic found in thousands...

The Ball series grew into new floor and desktop versions in 2011. The first Ball lamp was a wall lamp, and these continue to be a mainstay of the series. Many colours have come and gone in Ball’s history of more than 40 years. The most recent addition, in the fall of 2012, saw Ball launched in copper.
