Product catalog summary
Introduction
Marmoleum, a linoleum brand by Forbo, is renowned for its low environmental impact, using natural renewable materials and high recycled content. Forbo leads in environmental transparency, offering Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) reports for its products.
Product Definition
Marmoleum is a resilient floor covering available in 2.0 and 2.5 mm thicknesses, made from natural materials like linseed oil and jute. It is biodegradable and complies with EN-ISO 24011 standards.
Technical Specifications
Marmoleum meets ASTM F 2034 and EN-ISO 24011 standards, with a fire classification of Cfl - s1, slip resistance of DS: ≥ 0.30, and thermal conductivity of 0.17 W/mK. It complies with CHPS 01350 for VOC emissions.
Production Process
The production involves oxidizing linseed oil to form linoleum cement, mixed with other materials, calendared on jute, and cured. The process adheres to ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards.
Delivery and Installation
Globally distributed by truck and ship, Marmoleum installation waste is about 6%, with recyclable packaging. Low-emission adhesives are recommended.
Use and Maintenance
The product's reference service lifetime is one year, with maintenance involving vacuuming and damp mopping. Entrance mats can reduce cleaning frequency.
End of Life
Marmoleum is deconstructed mechanically, with energy recovery through incineration due to its high calorific value, avoiding landfilling.
Life Cycle Assessment
The LCA covers production, transport, installation, use, and end-of-life stages, focusing on energy usage and environmental impacts.
Overview
The document provides a comprehensive LCA of Marmoleum, adhering to ISO 14025 and EN 15804 standards, detailing energy usage and environmental impacts across the product lifecycle.
Cut-off Criteria
All production data, including raw materials and waste, are considered, with a 1% cut-off for energy usage and mass.
Allocations
No co-product allocation occurs; multi-input processes are allocated based on mass or calorific values.
LCA Data and Quality
Using GaBi 5 Software, the LCA data meets PCR specifications, covering all lifecycle stages.
Primary Energy Usage
Renewable energy comes from raw materials, while non-renewable energy is used in production and installation.
Waste and Resource Consumption
Minimal non-hazardous and radioactive waste, with significant non-renewable resource usage during production.
Environmental Impacts
The production stage significantly impacts environmental categories, with raw material supply being a major factor.
Interpretation
The production stage is the main contributor to environmental impacts, with transport also having a notable impact.
Nomenclature and Abbreviations
Includes explanations of terms like ADP, GWP, and EPD.
General Information
The LCA report for Marmoleum follows EN15804 and ISO 14025 standards, verified on 10/17/12.
