Profiled Sheeting Identifying Asbestos Sheets Eternit has been producing fibre cement products for over 100 years. The fibre cement sheets are manufactured from Portland cement and water, reinforced with natural and synthetic fibres, and have a typical design life of 50 years in normal atmospheric conditions. Eternit sheets and accessories have been manufactured from non-asbestos material since 1983, although the Profile 6 product was also made in asbestos cement (called big 6) until December 1997. From 24 November 1999, the importation, supply and use of chrysotile (white asbestos) in Great Britain have been banned (brown and blue fibres had previously been banned). Sheets marked AT contain asbestos. Any sheets marked, as: Eternit 2000, E2000, Duracem or NT would be non-asbestos. More specific advice on handling asbestos containing materials can be obtained from your local Health and Safety Executive Office, your local council or the Asbestos Information Centre. If in doubt always get a sample of the old sheets tested for asbestos or dispose of sheets as asbestos containing material via licenced disposal companies.
