METHACRYLATE

Product catalog summary
Overview of Methacrylate (PMMA): Methacrylate, or poly methyl methacrylate, is a transparent, colorless, and high-hardness ester thermoplastic. It is known for its high tensile strength, impact resistance, and excellent clarity. It remains stable outdoors, resisting yellowing and cracking under UV exposure.
Technical Features:
  • Mechanical: Elongation at break is 2.5-5%, Rockwell hardness is 92 on the M scale, tensile modulus ranges from 2400 to 3300 N/mm², and impact resistance (Izod) is between 16 and 32 J*m-1.
  • Thermal: The linear thermal expansion coefficient is between 70*10-6 and 77*10-6 K-1. The working temperature ranges from -40ºF (-40ºC) to 50-90ºC (122-194ºF), depending on continuous or intermittent use.
  • Physical: Density is 1.2 g*cm-3, and water absorption is less than 0.2%. It has excellent UV resistance.
  • Chemical Resistance: Resistant to mineral/organic acids, chlorides, gasoline, glycerine, and aliphatic hydrocarbons. Not resistant to acetic acid, sulfuric acid bichromatic, ethyl acetate, benzol, butanol, ketones, ethanol, methanol, and halogens. Partially resistant to turpentine/alcohol, detergents, esters, and silicones.
Coextrusion PMMA-PVC: Emac® manufactures Novocanto® Methacrylate by coextruding PVC and PMMA, resulting in a profile with enhanced properties suitable for pool applications due to its durability and geometry.
Applications: Methacrylate is used in construction (screens, covers), decoration (furniture), lighting (signs, signals), medicine (incubators), and optics (glasses, lenses).
Cleaning and Maintenance: Avoid abrasive products. Clean with soap and water using a smooth cloth. Avoid harmful alcohols and organic solvents.

METHACRYLATE-1

TECHNICAL FILE METHACRYLATE (PMMA) The methacrylate (poly metyl methacrylate) is an ester thermoplastic which is amorphous, transparent, colorless and high hardness. It has a high tensile strenght, high resistance to impact and an excellent clarity. It stands stable in outdoors and it is the more resistant plastic material in these conditions (including sun, rain, salt fog and pollution). It doesn’t become yellowish and neither presents fissures with the action of UV ray. TECHNICAL FILE METHACRYLATE (PMMA) Coextrusion PMMA-PVC The coextrusion is a manufacturing process based on the extrusion of combined materials in order to obtain a final product with better properties. Emac® manufactures Novocanto® Methacrylate by coextrusion of PVC and PMMA. The result is a profile made of PVC covered with PMMA. Some of the properties of PVC are: high rigidity, deformation resistance, impact resistance, reduced permeability and high security of performance. Those properties complement the PMMA ones: high resistance to outdoors and UV, high color stability, cleanability and...
