This project was born in 2009 and still continues. The idea: to use a pop icon such as the heart, reinterpreting it in the form of a vase, with anatomical references and a strongly Italian character. “In alto i cuori”, translation from Latin “Sursum Corda”, is an installation of porcelain wall elements, designed and handmade by ELICA Studio. The heart is the organ that every human being cannot do without, even in a figurative sense because no one can live without love. The collection today includes 65 different versions but the project foresees 90, as many as the numbers of the Neapolitan Smorfia....

Celebrating the human body by dissecting it. The human body as a great system of signs and symbols. We are expression, beyond words and gestures . A perspective of the flesh in which certain parts become containers. Here then are hands and feet, and teeth made into porcelain with a figurative "dissection": not containers of nerves, veins, bones, blood but of ideas and messages. Consciousness of man as architecture, as column, capital, but also as vase, a relationship between reality and appearance that we are still trying to resolve.

Elisabetta Bovina and Carlo Pastore graduated ai the ISIA, Istituto Superiore per le Industrie Artisliche in Faenza and founded Elica Studio in 1990.
