Dow Chemical Company Limited STYROFOAM™ and XENERGY™ EXTRUDED FOAMED POLYSTYRENE (STYROFOAM™ brand includes ROOFMATE™, FLOORMATE™ and PERIMATE™) Guidance Notes for Safe Opening of Bulk Packs Detailed below are GUIDANCE NOTES only for breaking open bulk packs of STYROFOAM™ and XENERGY™ extruded polystyrene (“the task”). It is important that STYROFOAM™ and XENERGY™ products are handled safely and in accordance with relevant site regulations. To assist, we offer the following guidance notes*. Breaking bulk guidance * Whilst every care has been taken with these Guidance Notes, The Dow Chemical Company Limited accepts no responsibility for the operations referred to in the Guidance Notes and cannot accept liability for any loss, damage or injury related to the operations or the task, however caused. Importantly, the Guidance Notes do not relieve the User from responsibility to carry out its own risk assessment specifically relating to the circumstances and requirements of the site where the unloading of bulk pack operations will take place. The User is responsible for ensuring that its employees, agents and contractors have been properly trained in the relevant safe working procedure identified as relevant to the task. ®™ Trademark of The Dow Chemical Company ("DOW") or an affiliated company of Dow Key points: ››› Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn as required by the site/user personnel regulations. ››› Individual packs weigh approximately 20kgs (2500 x 600mm) and 10kgs (1250 x 600mm). When handling 2500 x 600mm packs best practice suggests two people should perform the task. ››› Ensure that the bulk pack is positioned on an even, adequate load-bearing surface with space for two people to walk and work on all four sides.

Unwrapping guidance ››› Cut the wrap vertically from approximately head height to a depth of one or two individual packs. Cut the wrap horizontally allowing one or two packs to be removed from the bulk pack. DO NOT cut wrap any further at this time. Carefully pull out one or two individual packs from the bulk pack. Individual packs above should be supported by the wrap not yet cut. Carefully cut the wrap above the removed packs allowing the packs above to fall into the space below.
