As CEO of Glen Dimplex Germany, Jochen Engelke (48) stands at the helm of an organization that has always thought in systems. For more than 40 years, the company has been perfecting the art of building refrigeration circuits at its plant in Kulmbach, Bavaria. The technology used for cooling can also be used for heating. Mr. Engelke, how long have you been thinking in systems? Jochen Engelke: That’s hard to say. Definitely a long time now. I originally studied Chemical Engineering, which is all about systems – the combination of natural laws with their practical application in industrial systems. But even when I go windsurfing on vacation, I’m still thinking about balanced systems. The board, the waves, the sail, the wind – they all have to be aligned correctly for you to go forward as fast as possible. Otherwise you end up in the water. What’s the correct thickness of tube? How should we integrate the buffer tank and the hot water preparation system – unless both are preinstalled by Dimplex, of course? Every system has to be individually assembled and set up. You have to be careful not to make any mistakes otherwise the people who live in the house will be unhappy and the equipment will need a lot of maintenance.
