Fashion fades, only style remains the same. Created in 1997 by Marianne Abelsson, the Pleece collection has changed very little over the years. Some models have been added. The colours change slightly as the seasons come and go. But it’s still based on the same timeless simplicity and quality that never goes out of style. Pleece is still one of Design House Stockholm’s best selling products. It has been sold in MoMA Store, New York, for 15 years.

Pleece Collection — Material. The Pleece collection is made by a unique blend of 75% polyester and 25% viscose, that sets it apart from other fleece fabrics. Also, the pleating process gives the fleece extra volume and softness. The fabric retains its pleating after washing. Suitable for both men and women, for indoor and outdoor use alike, the Pleece collection has turned into a modern classic.

25 years has passed since I visited the pleating factory in Boras with textile designer Marianne Abelsson, a city on the west side of Sweden called the Mecca of Swedish textile. The machinery was old but over the years the production line has been completely tailored to match the unique making of PLEECE. The secret is the material, the heat and exactly the right pressure. After the tragedy last year when the family owned factory Myras burned down, a new modern facility is now ready to start production again. Pleece Collection — Production.

Noone could believe 25 years ago that Mariannes brilliant idea to keep you warm in the cold season by mixing soft Pleece with air, should be a fashion design icon all over the world. Design House Stockholm is a publishing house for Scandinavian design, mainly developing products in the category of home accessories. Pleece is the only fashion collection and a good example of how to combine fantasy and function.

Pleece Collection — Meet the designer. Marianne Abelsson Designer of Pleece Collection Textile designer Marianne Abelsson started working with Design House Stockholm in 1997. She is educated at the Textile School in Borås and has been working as a designer and running her own business for many years. Her designs include the Pleece collection, the ceramic clock Tid, the candlestick Table Light, the Cutting Board range, and the pleated felt Runner and Pillowcase. She has done significant design work for companies such as Almedahls and Borås Wäfver
