Open Tread Staircases Open Tread Staircases allow the light to permeate through the staircase as well as giving a contemporary feel. They comprise of a central spine beam with concrete treads fixed to the top and cantilevering to both sides of the beam. The smooth lines of the concrete are accentuated by the curve of the staircase. The treads are slotted over a central steel column and baseplate and grouted in. They will require a separate foundation pad. A central concrete newel post is placed over the steel column to finish off the staircase. Spiral staircases can be bolted to timber floors by means of an anchor tread. PROJECT: Private House PLACE: Virginia Water, Sunningdale Helical Staircases CCP Helical Staircases are cast upside down in bespoke steel moulds. The multi-faceted soffits which follow the curved lines of the geometry of the helix are formed with a steel trowel by skilled operatives.
