Deafgard - 1

Deafgard Protecting your world How will you alert deaf or hard of hearing people in the event of a fire alarm sounding at night? Under the Equality Act, service providers such as hoteliers and suppliers of sleeping accommodation are legally obliged to make provision for the disabled, including the deaf and hard of hearing. Place the Deafgard unit on the bedside table One of the main concerns for service providers who have people sleeping in their premises is how to alert the deaf or hard of hearing of the fire alarm sounding when they are sleeping. Deafgard offers a wire free, portable and cost effective solution. Deafgard is an acoustically activated bedside unit that incorporates an epilepsy friendly strobe and a connected vibrating-pad that, when placed under the pillow, vibrates to wake the sleeper upon the fire alarm sounding. A high intensity flashing strobe and LCD provides visual indication that the fire alarm is sounding. Place the vibrating pad underneath the pillow In the event of a fire alarm: • • • • Deafgard will pick up the sound The under-pillow-pad will vibrate The strobe light will activate The word FIRE will be displayed on the LCD screen Deafgard should be kept at the reception area of the premises and can be handed to a deaf or hard of hearing person upon check in. The receptionist should test the Deafgard and show the guest how to operate the unit; the Deafgard unit accompanies the guest to his/her room. Additionally, Deafgard incorporates an alarm clock facility for the deaf and hard of hearing, when the alarm clock activates the under-pillow-pad vibrates, but the strobe light will not flash, providing added value to your customers. Deafgard can be used with any fire alarm designed to BS 5839, the sound level at the bed head should be over 75db.
