Overview of CGL Aluminium Rainscreen System
The CGL Aluminium Rainscreen System utilizes FF2 coil-coated aluminium, featuring the CGL CS3 support system and 2mm thick FF2 cassette panels. Key features include excellent panel flatness, modular shadow joints, high-quality PVdF paint finish, a full system warranty, and a superb range of metallic and flat colors with perfect color consistency.
Project Details
The system was implemented in a residential development at Western Harbour, Edinburgh, designed by Cooper Cromar and installed by Taylor Woodrow. The project involved 16,000m2 of FF2 PVdF coil-coated aluminium, designed to withstand high wind loads due to its exposed seafront location.
System DescriptionThe system consists of FF2 aluminium cassette panels fixed to the CGL CS3 extruded aluminium hanging system. It is a ventilated rainscreen system requiring installation on an air-impermeable, insulated, and acoustically satisfactory structural wall. The cavity between the backing wall and rainscreen is pressure equalized to prevent rain ingress and allow moisture to dry naturally. The system complies with the "Standard for
Ventilated Facades" by the Centre for Window and
Cladding Technology at Bath University.
FF2 PVdF Coil-Coated Aluminium
Manufactured by Novelis, FF2 is a 2mm thick 5754H42 aluminium alloy, offering performance equivalent to 3mm 3000 series alloys. It is coil-coated for quality control over the PVdF finish, ensuring excellent color fastness and longevity. CGL is responsible for designing the structural attachment and stiffening of the panels.
CGL CS3 Support System
The CGL CS3 support system provides flexibility for creating a flat, modular façade with exceptional tolerances. It features a vertical rail system with wall brackets, using aluminium, stainless steel, and neoprene compression gaskets.
Maintenance
Painted aluminium facades should be washed annually with clean water, a neutral cleaning agent, and a soft applicator to ensure longevity exceeding 30 years.
Warranty
CGL Systems offers a warranty on system design and performance, varying by location and material, covering the replacement of defective products.
