The CGL Zinc Rainscreen System utilizes preweathered zinc panels, specifically designed for ventilated facades. The system includes the CGL CS3 support system and 1.5mm thick zinc cassette panels, offering excellent panel flatness, modular shadow joints, and a high-quality oxidized zinc finish. It is characterized by zero maintenance requirements and self-healing properties, ensuring excellent graining and color consistency.
The system was implemented in the Fact Centre project in Liverpool, designed by architect Austin Smith Lord and installed by Carlton Building Systems Limited. The project features 2000m2 of zinc cassettes, each 600 x 600mm, providing a consistent shade that naturally patinates over time, with a lifespan exceeding 60 years.
The system comprises prepatinated zinc panels fixed to the CGL CS3 extruded aluminum hanging system. It is a ventilated rainscreen system requiring installation on an air-impermeable, insulated, and acoustically satisfactory structural internal wall. The cavity between the backing wall and rainscreen is pressure equalized to prevent rain ingress and allow moisture to dry naturally. The system complies with the 'Standard for Ventilated Facades' from the Centre for Window and Cladding Technology at Bath University.
The titanium zinc sheeting is 1.5mm thick, prepatinated for quality control over finish and longevity. CGL has expertise in fabricating various components from this material and ensures structural attachment and stiffening. The CGL CS3 support system offers flexibility for a flat, modular facade, using aluminum, stainless steel, and neoprene compression gaskets.
The preweathered zinc is virtually maintenance-free, with self-healing properties for scratches. Dirt can be removed with water and a sponge. CGL Systems provides a warranty on system design and performance, varying by location and material, covering defective product replacement.
