Montleon natural slate

Product catalog summary
Introduction
Montleon natural slate is a high-quality roofing material sourced from Spain, offered by Cembrit, a leading European building materials producer. Known for its durability and aesthetic appeal, Montleon slate is suitable for various building types, especially those requiring a traditional appearance.

Specifications
Montleon slates are available in blue/black and various sizes, classified as having a normal texture according to BS EN 12326. They exhibit top performance in water absorption (Class A1), thermal cycle resistance (Class T1), and sulphur dioxide exposure resistance (Class S1). The slates have good flexural strength and low oxidisation risk.

Design Considerations
Montleon slates should be laid according to BS 5534 standards, considering site exposure and roof pitch. Wind and snow load calculations should follow BS 5534 and BS 6399 guidelines. For severe exposure conditions, specific recommendations are provided.

Installation Procedures
Slates must be stored properly and sorted by thickness before installation. They should be fixed using appropriate nails or hooks as per BS 5534 standards. The roof structure must be checked for alignment, and battens should be installed according to specified dimensions.

Ventilation and Underlay
Proper ventilation is crucial, following BS 5250 guidelines. Suitable underlay should meet BS 747 standards, ensuring moisture drainage and extending into the eaves gutter.

Additional Recommendations
To prevent lead staining, treat all lead components with patination oil. A full range of accessories is available, and specific installation guidance can be obtained from Cembrit's technical department.

Sitework Storage and handling Slates should be carefully stacked on their longer edges with timber bearers, battens or boards between layers. The lowest layer must be arranged on a firm level base. Working Slate can be cut and holed on site by hand or machine. Care must be taken to avoid undue spalling. Slates should be holed from the bed towards the face so that the nail-head is accommodated in the small cavity formed by the area of spalling. Individual slates should be holed so that the thicker end is at the tail of the slate. Before fixing, the slates should be sorted into three or four groups...
