Jutland fibre cement slates

Product catalog summary
Introduction
The document outlines the features and benefits of Jutland fibre cement slates by Cembrit, emphasizing their suitability for roofing due to their quality, durability, and environmental compliance.

Product Specifications
Jutland slates are characterized by their flat, square-edged design, lightweight nature, and pre-holed structure for easy installation. They are composed of Portland cement and a non-asbestos blend of synthetic and cellulose fibers, finished with a semi-matt acrylic coating. Available sizes include 600x300mm, 500x250mm, and 400x240mm, with color options like Graphite, Blue/Black, Russet, and Autumn Brown.

Quality Assurance
These slates are produced under ISO 9001 standards and comply with BS EN 492: 2004. They possess a BBA Certificate and are approved by various local authorities.

Environmental Management
Jutland slates are manufactured in line with BS EN ISO 14001: 2004, have an Environmental Profile Certificate, and are listed on greenbooklive.com. They achieve high A+/A ratings in the Green Guide and have Ecopoint scores between 0.34 and 0.51 over a 60-year lifecycle.

Performance Characteristics
These slates are compatible with most building materials, except those susceptible to alkaline attack. They meet Class B strength requirements, have a density of 1850 kg/m3, and demonstrate satisfactory frost resistance. Additionally, they are fire-resistant and have a thermal conductivity of 0.35W/m°C.

Installation Guidelines
Slates should be stored dry and handled with care to avoid staining. They can be cut using traditional methods and must be installed according to BS 5534: 2003 standards. Proper ventilation and underlay are crucial for optimal performance.

Design Considerations
Jutland slates are suitable for various roof pitches and exposure conditions. Guidance tables are provided for slate size, headlap, and batten gauge for different exposure levels.

Accessories and Supply
A comprehensive range of accessories is available, and slates are supplied directly to approved contractors and merchants. Additional details and specifications can be obtained from Cembrit's technical department or website.

Performance Compatibility Jutland slates are compatible with most common building materials, except those vulnerable to alkaline attack. When materials such as aluminium are used as flashings or gutters they should be protected and maintained with bituminous paint if they will be subject to water run-off from the slates. Jutland slates show satisfactory frost resistance after 100 freeze/thaw cycles and satisfy the requirements of BS EN 492: 2004 section 7.4.1. Tolerances Jutland slates are made to the following dimensional tolerances in accordance with BS EN 492: 2004. Length or width: ± 3.0mm...

General design considerations Table 2  Moderate exposure Jutland slate laid to BS 5534 will meet the strength requirements for the imposed and uniformly distributed wind and snow loads etc. The site exposure rating and the pitch of roof rafters will determine the size, pattern, lap and fixings for the slates. For UK and Northern Ireland locations, BS 5534: 2003 will indicate the expected degree of exposure. Wind driven rain ratings less than 56.5 l/ m2 per spell are described as ‘moderate’ (see table 2) and those above 56.5 l/ m2 per spell are described as ‘severe’ (see table 3). Detailed guidance...

Sitework Storage and handling Jutland slates should not be allowed to become wet during storage as this may cause efflorescence staining as a result of water accumulating between the slates surfaces. If stored outside for short periods, the polythene hood should be removed and the slates open stacked and covered with a tarpaulin. The slates should be carefully stacked on their longer edges with timber bearers, battens or boards between layers. The lowest layer must be arranged on a firm level base. To avoid splitting the batten, the maximum nail diameter should not exceed one tenth of the batten...
