Self-supporting modular domes Tunnels

Self-supporting modular domes Tunnels

Product catalog summary
Overview: The document provides technical specifications and manufacturing details for self-supporting thermoformed tunnels produced by CAODURO® S.p.A. These tunnels are made from high-quality thermoplastic polymers, specifically polycarbonate (PC), using a heat-bending process.
Manufacturing Process: The thermoforming process partially orients polymer molecules and includes the creation of stiffening ribs every 90 cm. This design ensures the tunnel is self-supporting and can withstand standard static and dynamic stresses. The absence of metal ribs prevents thermal bridges, reducing condensation risks and ensuring uniform light distribution.
Dimensions and Customization: Tunnels can be customized with vertical closing head elements, available in two shapes: smooth and slightly rounded or moulded with reinforcing ribs for added rigidity. The document provides a detailed table of dimensions, indicating clear span (A), external support wall (B), overall tunnel dimension (C), intermediate element (M), and rib spacing (F).
Key Specifications:
  • Clear span (A) ranges from 100 cm to 300 cm.
  • Rib spacing (F) is consistently 90 cm, except for 300 cm modules where it is 60 cm.
  • Head elements are available in dimensions corresponding to the tunnel size.

Self-supporting modular domes Tunnels-1

Self-supporting thermoformed tunnels Manufacturing consists of heat-bending high quality thermoplastic polymers sheets, such as polycarbonate (PC). Thermoforming process induces a partial orientation of the polymer molecules. During moulding, stiffening ribs are realized every 90 cm in order to make the tunnel self-supporting and able to withstand standard static and dynamic stresses as required. It is possible to obtain 90 cm long elements by cutting the centre of intermediate ribs (60 cm long elements in case of 300 cm modules). The absence of metal ribs avoids the formation of thermal bridges and, therefore, possible condensation forming. The tunnel is so completely transparent and the spreading light is uniform. Vertical closing head elements are available upon request for every size. They are manufactured by thermoforming flat sheets in two different shapes according to the tunnel size: smooth and slightly rounded or moulded with reinforcing ribs. Moulded ribs improve rigidity of the element, making it stable and safe even for the biggest dimensions. CAODURO® S.p.A.
