INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS HARD FOAM SKIRTING BOARD The following installation instructions must be observed in particular for the installation of BOLTA hard foam skirting boards. VOB Part C DIN 18365 "Floor-laying work" and the respective comments/explanations as well as the current data sheets from the Bundesverband Estrich und Belag (BEB) [German Federal Screed and Floor Covering Association] and the Technischen Kommission Bauklebstoffe (TKB) [Technical Commission for Construction Adhesives] as well as the recognised rules of the trade/technology apply in addition to these installation instructions. Like substrates for the installation of floor coverings, the wall substrate must be examined to determine its suitability when installing skirting boards. The same regulations as mentioned in point 1 apply. The substrate for mounting the hard foam skirting boards (HSL) must in particular be sufficiently even, dry, free from cracks and firm/capable of bearing loads. Apart from that, the substrate must not have any separating layers and instable zones. The room temperature must lie between 18 and 23 °C (21 °C is ideal). The substrate temperature must be at least 15 °C (ideally at least 18 °C). The relative humidity must lie between 40 and 65%. The following empirical values apply to the residual moisture or moisture level in the substrate: • Gypsum plaster < 0.5 % by weight, • Cement mortar < 2.5 % by weight, • Lime mortar < 2.0 % by weight, • Concrete < 3.0 % by weight, • <0.5% by weight. Stud walls with gypsum board In addition, the roughness of the surface and the porosity of the substrate must be checked. A coat of primer may be necessary before installing the hard foam skirting board. In addition, the evenness of the substrate must be checked. If the substrates are too uneven, or if they are very rough or structured, the walls must be smoothed/filled before installation. 3. INSTALLATION/FASTENING Before processing and installation, all skirting boards are to be acclimatised for at least 24 hours and thus adapted to the climatic conditions in the room (see point 2). The profiles must be stored such that deformations and comparable impediments are ruled out. Various possibilities are available for installation. The skirting boards can be fastened by gluing or nailing. The type of installation depends on the substrate and the appearance of the skirting board and must ideally be clarified and defined together with the customer. If gluing the skirting boards, we recommend that the respective manufacturer of the hot-melt adhesive systems or mounting adhesives be consulted. Suitable dry adhesives may also be used on smooth and even substrates; however the required quantity of adhesive and the type of adhesive tape must also be clarified with the manufacturer of the respectiv

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS HARD FOAM SKIRTING BOARD If nailing, galvanised steel nails must be used. The required length of the nails depends on the existing substrate. The distance between the nails should be between 25 and max. approx. 50 cm. The nails are to be arranged with an offset. In special situations it may also be practical to use a combined method of fixing – gluing with additional nailing. Note that the substrates/walls must be clean, dry, sufficiently even, with no instable zones and with no separating layers. Otherwise suitable measures must be taken to bring the...
