Product catalog summary
Product Overview
ThermalFlex is a high-performance thermal insulator made from natural plant and wood fibres. It is designed for various building applications, including timber frame structures, pitched roofs, and attic conversions. Its semi-rigid structure makes it suitable for SIP panelling and suspended timber floors. ThermalFlex is notable for its high thermal mass, which allows it to store and release solar energy, enhancing energy efficiency.
Specifications
  • Available in batt form with widths of 580mm and thicknesses of 50mm, 75mm, and 100mm. Length is consistently 1.2m.
  • Custom sizes are available upon request.
  • Thermal resistance (R) values range from 1.32 m².k/W for 50mm thickness to 5.26 m².k/W for 200mm thickness.
  • U-values range from 0.76 W/m².K for 50mm thickness to 0.19 W/m².K for 200mm thickness.
Environmental Impact
  • Manufactured using approximately 10% of the energy required for some man-made mineral fibre insulations.
  • Made from waste fibres from the timber and agricultural industry.
  • Zero ozone depletion potential (ODP) and global warming potential (GWP).
Technical Performance
  • High thermal mass allows for energy storage and release, reducing energy costs and air conditioning needs.
  • Excellent moisture buffering capabilities improve indoor air quality.
  • Fire rating: Euro Class E (EN 13501-1: 2002).
  • Thermal conductivity: 0.038 W/m°K.
  • Specific heat capacity: 2300 - 2800 J/kg°K.
  • Vapour resistivity: 10 MNs/gm.
  • Moisture absorption: 20% w/w.
  • Density: approximately 40kg/m³.

ThermalFlex Technical Sheet-1

Black Mountain ThermalFlex Technical Data ThermalFlex is an outstanding thermal insulator with many other excellent performance benefits. In addition to a high thermal mass, ThermalFlex is also Technical Sheet an extremely durable, natural plant and wood fibre insulation. ThermalFlex is completely safe to handle and install without protective clothing. It has an excellent ability to buffer moisture and in doing so significantly improves the indoor air quality of a building. ThermalFlex can be installed in a number of different building applications and has the capability of reducing energy loss and providing building inhabitants with free passive energy absorbed from solar gain. The high thermal mass also reduces peak temperatures during summer months and reduces air conditioning requirements by providing a more comfortable environment, which is especially important in attics, schools and office environments.
