”The simplicity is important. It shouldn’t feel too high-tech”, says designer Mårten Cyrén as he reflects on the shape of Tipi, a light that he designed with his brother, the architect Gustav Cyrén, for ateljé Lyktan. Tipi is a floorlight for both outdoor and indoor use, made from slats of heat-treated ash. The arrangement of the wooden slats around a stainless steel circular structure is reminiscent of the Native American teepee as well as the Swedish Samis “kåta”. Hence the name. There is a choice of three sizes: 530, 740 and 950 mm high. The round handle on top, in die-cast aluminium, makes it easy to move around. The electric cord is concealed in one of the three legs, which raises the Tipi off the ground. “There is something about its height and glow that reminds me of a camp fire”, says Cyrén. “A portable camp fire”.
