Lotus René Holten / Design 2008 Sleek, smooth and functional is an apt description of René Holten’s Lotus. Made from Cristalplant, a new composite material that’s snowwhite, a hard as marble, soft to the touch and easy to clean. The design of the Lotus and Low Lotus stretches the frontiers of this material to its limits. The way in which the moulded tablet flows into the shell is only possible with this sort of composite material. The central stainlesssteel base with its four slim legs emphasises the sloping shape of the shell. Strak, glad en functioneel, Lotus, ontworpen door René Holten. Uitgevoerd in Cristalplant, een nieuw composietmateriaal. Sneeuwwit, marmerhard, met een zachte touch en makkelijk te reinigen. In het ontwerp van de Lotus zijn de grenzen van het materiaal opgezocht. De wijze waarop het tafeltje wegvloeit in de zitschaal is alleen in dit soort composiet­ materialen mogelijk. De centrale RVS-poot, bestaande uit vier slanke tenen, versterkt de glooiende vormen van de zitschaal. Réalisés en Cristal Plant, un tout nouveau matériau composite, blanc comme neige, dur comme le marbre, mais doux au toucher et facile à nettoyer. Avec Lotus, le designer a véritablement exploré les limites du matériau. Le mouvement fluide décrit par la table et la coque repose entièrement sur les propriétés exceptionnelles du matériau composite. Le piètement central en acier inox, se divisant en quatre branches élancées, renforce les formes onduleuses de la coque. Geradlinig, glatt und funktional: Lotus, entworfen von René Holten. Der Stuhl ist in Cristalplant, einem neuen Verbundwerkstoff, ausgeführt. Das schneeweiße Modell ist hart wie Marmor, hat aber trotzdem einen weichen Touch und lässt sich einfach reinigen. Bei dem Entwurf des Lotus sind die Grenzen des Materials erkundet worden. Wie der Tisch gleichmäßig in die Sitzschale übergeht, ist dies nur bei dieser Art von Verbundwerkstoffen möglich. Der mittige Edelstahlfuß, der aus vier schlanken Streben besteht, verstärkt die fließenden Formen der Sitzschale.
