STOOL 60 AND E60 – ALVAR AALTO 1933 AND 1934 In the late 1920s, Aalto began to experiment with bending wood and collaborated with the furniture manufacturer Otto Korhonen on a number of innovative techniques. For the fabrication of the “L-leg”, Alvar Aalto developed a patented process for the bending of solid wood. Multiple vertical saw cuts are made in the end of a piece of wood a few millimeters apart. Thin strips of wood veneer are then inserted into these slits and glued. The method simplifies the actual bending process, but also increases the dimensional stability of the finished component....
