Effluent Quality Specifications

System Design Considerations
The maximum design organic loading per module is 0.3755 lbs/day. Hydraulic loading varies by application: 150 gpd for residential, 120 gpd for commercial, and 240-300 gpd for polishing or recirculation. Each module weighs 1800 lbs.
The Puraflo Process
  1. Collection: Sewage is collected in a watertight septic tank where solids settle, and liquid effluent is filtered and directed to a pump basin.
  2. Treatment: Effluent is dosed into Puraflo modules, where it undergoes biological, chemical, and physical treatment as it filters through peat fiber media.
  3. Dispersal or Water Reuse: Treated effluent is dispersed into a gravel pad or collected for other dispersal methods. It is suitable for reuse, with potential chemical or UV disinfection.
Puraflo Peat Fiber Biofilter Module
Modules are made from UV-resistant HDPE, with media lasting approximately 15 years. They use high lignin Irish peat fiber and feature lids for full access, available in multiple colors.
Technical Drawings and Dispersal Options
Includes designs for gravel trench chambers, mounded pads, and in-ground pads. Only modules with the NSF® logo and designated P150N* XX are certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 40.

Engineering & Technical Specifications Peat Fiber Biofilter The Puraflo Process 1. Collection Sewage flows from the home or facility into a watertight septic tank. The solids settle and the liquid effluent flows by gravity through a commercial effluent filter to a pump basin/tank. 2. Treatment The liquid effluent is timed dosed at specific intervals into the Puraflo modules, where it is distributed evenly onto the biofibrous peat media. A combination of biological, chemical, and physical processes treat the effluent as it filters through the peat fiber media. 3.
