Raft Bar Stool NA4

Product catalog summary
Specifications:
The Raft Barstool NA4, designed by NORM Architects, features materials such as powder-coated steel with solid oak or ash legs, and a seat available in sandblasted oak or black ash. Its dimensions are 700 mm in height, 450 mm in depth, and 560 mm in width. The stool is available in two color combinations: brass with black ash and brass with natural oak.
Design Inspiration:
The design draws inspiration from maritime objects, highlighting the contrast between the roughness of aged wood and the industrial efficiency of metal. This Scandinavian modernist piece combines simplicity with a subtly aged appearance, featuring sandblasted surfaces that enhance the wood's texture. The stool's triple legs offer a dynamic, creature-like appearance and allow for two seating positions, making it versatile as both a stool and a side table.
Design Philosophy:
NORM Architects, consisting of Kasper Rønn and Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen, emphasize a Scandinavian modernist tradition characterized by functionality, minimalism, and timelessness. Their work is influenced by natural materials and attention to detail, drawing inspiration from various design traditions, including Japanese design, the Arts & Crafts movement, and the Shaker Movement. They admire minimalists like Mies Van der Rohe and Donald Judd but also appreciate the detailed approach of Carlo Scarpa.
Innovation and Approach:
NORM Architects focus on combining materials innovatively and rethinking design details. Their design process is flexible, with each creation emerging uniquely. Their collaboration often results in new designs, as seen in their MILK lamp for &Tradition, which combines a translucent glass shade with wooden legs to create a cozy atmosphere, reflecting Danish design traditions.
