Product Range
  • Ancon 500 Tension System: Available in stainless and carbon steel, suitable for applications requiring corrosion resistance or cost-effectiveness. Bars range from 8mm to 42mm in diameter.
  • Ancon 360 Tension System: Designed for larger applications with bar diameters above 42mm, extending up to 56mm.
  • Compression Systems: Utilize high-strength tubes and the same connectors as tension systems, available in various sizes and finishes.

System Components
Components include fork connectors, locking nuts, pins, couplers, and anchor discs, allowing for flexible assembly configurations from simple tie bars to complex bracing systems.

Applications
Ancon systems are used in various structures, including timber constructions, roof structures, canopies, and glazed structures, offering solutions for both aesthetic and functional requirements.

Performance and Dimensions
The systems provide high load capacities with detailed performance metrics available for different bar sizes. Adjustments can be made without turnbuckles, and various finishes are available to meet aesthetic needs.

Installation and Ordering
Guidance is provided for specifying and ordering systems, with installation instructions ensuring correct alignment and secure connections. BIM objects are available for integration into 3D building models.

Specifications
Ancon Tension Systems are available in two main types: Ancon 500 and Ancon 360. The Ancon 500 system is available in both stainless steel and carbon steel, while the Ancon 360 system is only available in carbon steel.

Design Example
A design example is provided with a characteristic dead load of 30.0kN and a characteristic imposed load of 22.6kN, resulting in a design load of 74.4kN. The Ancon 500/20 system is recommended with a design resistance of 79.1kN.

Material Specifications
Detailed material specifications for carbon steel and stainless steel components are provided, including ultimate tensile strength, yield stress, and elongation percentages.

Dimensions and Components
Dimensions for various components such as fork connectors, couplers, and anchor discs are detailed, with tables for different thread sizes and material specifications.

Installation Guidance
Installation guidance emphasizes correct alignment and positioning of fork connectors, advising assembly on the ground before lifting into position.

Additional Products
Ancon offers a range of other products including wall ties, masonry support systems, and shear load connectors, designed to meet specific construction needs.

Tie Bars Tie bars have a right-hand thread at one end and a left-hand thread at the other. Flats are pressed into the bar close to each end. These allow the bar to be screwed into the fork connectors and adjustments to be made at any time after assembly. Neither couplers nor turnbuckles will be required for applications using a single bar between two forks. The bar is correctly installed when all threads are hidden within the locking nut. The availability of each size of bar is given on page 11. All bars are cut to a tolerance of ±2mm of the specified length. Carbon steel bars are available either...

Stainless Steel Systems Stainless steel is used for applications where a maintenance-free life is important or where a high quality polished finish is required. This can be particularly impressive when used in conjunction with large areas of glazing. Cross-Bracing The use of anchor discs or cross couplers form a cross brace, allowing bars to lie in the same plane. This removes the need to offset bars, with the disc or coupler providing an interesting design feature for the panel. Glazed Structures The passage of light is normally a vital consideration in the design of glazed structures. The small...

Performance and Dimensions The design resistances include a material factor (ym) of 1.25 against failure. An appropriate partial safety factor (y,) will need to be applied to the characteristic dead, imposed and wind loads. Forks must be correctly aligned, and positioned in the same plane to ensure that bending is not introduced into the tension system. Design Example Characteristic dead load = 30.0kN yf = 1.35 Characteristic imposed load = 22.6kN yf = 1.5 Design load = (30.0 x 1.35) + (22.6 x 1.5) = 74.4kN Use Ancon 500/20 Design Resistance = 79.1kN > 74.4kN Ancon Tension Systems are not suitable...
