Product catalog summary
Overview
The AmDeck® Floor & Roof System is a modular, lightweight form made of Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) used for constructing concrete floors and roofs. It provides structural strength through reinforced concrete and insulation through EPS. The system uses 10-inch lightweight steel framing studs to support temporary construction loads and serve as furring strips for interior finishes. It complements Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) structures, creating a complete structural and thermal building envelope.
Key Features
  • Reduces Construction Time and Labor Costs: Shoring can be placed up to 20ft apart, which is four times less than competing products. The small, lightweight units are easy to handle, and fully reversible forms simplify installation.
  • Design Flexibility: Concrete floor/roof joists can span 30-35ft with normal concrete mixes, and spans over 40ft are possible with higher strength concrete and post-tensioned reinforcing cables. Sizes can be adjusted to fit any project without pre-ordering.
  • Environmental Protection: The system eliminates wood use, reducing deforestation. Polypropylene webs are made from recycled materials, and construction waste is significantly reduced.
  • Comfort and Safety: Floors and roofs have a fire rating of over 2 hours and provide protection against tornadoes and hurricanes. Non-organic materials prevent insect damage and mold growth, reduce noise transmission, and improve temperature control.
Installation Procedure
  1. Erect shoring as per engineer or code requirements.
  2. Install steel joists 16 inches apart.
  3. Stack forms from one side to the other.
  4. Install electrical conduits and block-outs for service penetrations.
  5. Place rebar for concrete joists.
  6. Place transverse and longitudinal rebar for the concrete top.
  7. Pour concrete onto forms from one side to the other.
  8. Use a pencil vibrator for proper concrete consolidation.
  9. Smooth concrete to create a flat surface.
  10. Let concrete cure before proceeding with further construction stages.
Technical Specifications
The system supports a maximum span for concrete joists based on a 10 psf dead load, 40 psf live load, and specific steel and concrete strengths. The table provides estimated maximum spans for various slab thicknesses and steel configurations.
