Product catalog summary
Introduction to Daylighting Systems
Daylighting systems are diverse, ranging from architectural atria to reflective window blinds. A common element is the use of high reflectance materials, particularly aluminium, due to its optical properties, ductility, lightness, and corrosion resistance. These materials are crucial for redirecting and distributing light efficiently.
Architectural Integration
Efficient natural lighting begins with architectural design, including orientation, window layout, and rooflights. New constructions can incorporate daylighting vaults with mirror reflectors to enhance light distribution. High reflectance aluminium is ideal for these applications due to its lightweight and formability. Curved mirrors and compound parabolic collectors can also be used for sophisticated light collection systems.
Window Daylighting
Traditional window daylighting can cause glare and heat. Reflective aluminium Venetian blinds can be integrated into double glazing systems to redirect light and reduce glare. These systems can be combined with reflective ceiling fixtures for optimal light distribution and thermal control.
Light Pipe Technology
Almeco has developed materials for light pipe applications, maximizing efficiency in light distribution. High total reflectance is crucial, as it minimizes light absorption losses. Almeco's materials offer 98.5% total reflectance, optimizing light output. Mirror reflection is also important to reduce internal reflections and maintain efficiency.
Reflectance and Durability
Almeco's materials maintain high reflectance at various angles, with measurements showing increased reflectance as the angle from vertical increases. The materials have a uniform spectral reflectance, with slight color shifts under certain conditions. Durability tests show minimal changes in reflectance after exposure to humidity and UV conditions.
Technical Specifications
Almeco's products, such as vegaSP198 and vegaSP298, offer high reflectance and durability. They are tested for mechanical and environmental resilience, maintaining performance under various conditions. The materials are certified under ISO standards, ensuring quality and environmental compliance.

Daylighting Application Almeco daylighting Daylighting systems take many forms, from grand architecural atria and light capturing apertures solutions and vaults to encapsulated reflective window blinds. One thing common to most of these systems is reflective material. Essential for re-directing and distributing light, high reflectance materials are at the heart of almost every daylighting project. Thanks not only to its optical properties, which can be varied and shaped to give glare free efficiency, but also due to its ductility, lightness and resistance to corrosion, high reflectance Aluminium...

have been developed specially for the energy saving market and in particular for light pipe applications. Almeco has adopted light pipe technology in its head office building in Milan, using formability of the to maximise efficiency in bringing light to its corridors. The ready material and its durability combined with its excellent optical characteristics to make it the material of choice for light pipe manufacturer. Key optical properties It is clear that the higher the total reflectance of the material making up the light pipe, the better will in a light pipe be its output. What may not be...

Maintained high reflection at different incident angles. The total reflectance of usually measured according to the European standard (DIN 5036 part 3) which measures at <10 degrees from the vertical, at which angle total reflection values of about 98.5% are found. Measuring to the US specification ASTM E-1651 with the Technidyne TR2 instrument at 30 degrees from the vertical shows values of 99%. As the angle moves further away from the vertical the reflectance increases. This seems hardly possible with a 98.5% reflective product, but measurements of mirror reflection with specular gloss meters...
