Heat treated glass toughened glasses Glasses can be heat-treated to increase their resistance to mechanical and thermal stresses There are three types of heat treatment: • • • heat-strengthened glass thermally toughened glass thermally toughened and Heat-Soak treated glass When broken, thermally toughened glass and thermally toughened and Heat-Soak treated glass fragment in such a way that they can be considered safety glasses. This is not the case with heatstrengthened glass.

Heat treated glass toughened glasses Heat strengthened glass Like thermally toughened glass, heat-strengthened glass is treated using a method of controlled heating and cooling that locks the surface of the glass in a state of compression. This method produces a glass with a bending resistance greater than that of annealed glass but less than that of thermally toughened glass since the glass is cooled more slowly. Heat-strengthened glass does not require heat soaking. Many glasses in the AGC Glass Europe range can be heat-strengthened: clear or coloured Planibel, Stopsol, Sunergy, Imagin...

Heat treated glass toughened glasses Heat soaked toughened glass Thermally toughened HST glass treated using a method of controlled heating and cooling that locks the surface of the glass in a state of compression. Once it has been toughened, the glass is placed in a furnace where it undergoes a special heating cycle that causes some glasses containing inclusions or impurities to break prematurely. This is known as heat-soak treatment. Virtually all the glasses in the AGC Glass Europe range can be thermally toughened and subjected to heatsoak treatment: clear or coloured Planibel, Stopsol,...

Heat treated glass - 5

Heat treated glass toughened glasses Toughened glass Glass which has been heat-treated using a method of controlled heating and cooling that locks the surface of the glass in a state of compression. Virtually all glasses in the AGC Glass Europe range can be thermally toughened: clear and coloured Planibel, Stopsol, Sunergy, Stopray, Imagin and so forth. Some types of glass with 'magnetron' coatings can also be toughened, provided a few adjustments are made to the toughening procedures. Use: single glazing, insulating glazing, laminated glazing and so on-primarily for applications where the...
