Product catalog summary
Introduction
The document discusses the Aermec VCF_X4 valve, designed for 4-pipe systems with traditional fan coil units. It highlights the energy and cost-saving benefits of using a single coil for both heating and cooling, achieving up to 30% energy savings. The system simplifies installation and enhances efficiency, particularly in winter, by utilizing a larger heat exchanger area.
VCF_X4: The Aermec Solution for 4-Pipe Systems
The VCF_X4 valve replaces traditional double coil systems with a single coil, improving heating efficiency by using a larger heat exchanger surface. This allows for lower heating system temperatures and significant energy savings, especially when paired with heat pumps or multipurpose units.
Application in Glazed Office Buildings
The document analyzes the VCF_X4 valve's application in glazed office buildings across different European climates (Stockholm, London, Rome). It evaluates heating and cooling loads, demonstrating the valve's efficiency in various climatic conditions. The analysis shows that using a single 3 or 4-row coil with the VCF_X4 valve provides better heating and cooling capacities compared to traditional systems.
Economic Advantages
The VCF_X4 valve offers economic benefits by reducing the need for high-temperature water supply, thus enhancing the efficiency of heat pumps and condensing boilers. The document provides data on energy efficiency improvements, showing a 20% increase in heating efficiency and a 5% increase in cooling efficiency when using the VCF_X4 valve.
Selection of Energy Sources
The document discusses the selection of energy sources for heating and cooling, emphasizing the advantages of using the VCF_X4 valve with multipurpose units. It highlights the efficiency gains from using lower water temperatures in heating and higher temperatures in cooling.
Conclusions
The VCF_X4 valve is presented as a future-oriented solution for nearly zero energy buildings, offering significant energy and cost savings while maintaining high levels of comfort and air quality.
Cooling Operation
The NRP 0700 A4 unit provides a cooling output of 160 kW with an Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) of 2.95 under nominal conditions of 12/7°C water and 35°C ambient temperature. Adjusting the chilled water setpoint from 7°C to 9°C can increase the EER by 5%.
Economic Advantages of VCF X4 Valve
The VCF X4 valve offers economic benefits by reducing initial and operational costs. It simplifies installation by reducing the number of components and installation time by 25% compared to traditional double coil systems. The valve also contributes to a 4% reduction in energy costs when used with a chiller/boiler system and up to 30% when used with a multipurpose unit.
Selection of Energy Sources
Two solutions are compared: a traditional air-water chiller and condensing boiler, and a high-efficiency multipurpose Aermec unit for 4-pipe systems. The multipurpose unit offers improved efficiency with heat recovery capabilities and a better Total Efficiency Ratio (TER) compared to traditional systems.
Operating Costs and CO2 Emissions
The use of the VCF X4 valve and multipurpose units can lead to significant reductions in operating costs and CO2 emissions. The multipurpose system with a single coil and VCF X4 valve can reduce operating costs by 30% and CO2 emissions by 37% compared to traditional systems.
Conclusions
The VCF X4 valve and multipurpose units provide cost savings, energy efficiency improvements, and reduced environmental impact. These solutions can enhance building energy class and offer substantial reductions in CO2 emissions.

THE NEW WAY TO PROVIDE COMFORT IN 4 PIPES SYSTEMS APPLICATIONS COMFORT SOLUTIONS The use of the Aermec VCF_X4 valve allows to carry out 4-pipe systems with tradi onal fan coil units, ed with a single coil, providing an average energy saving of up to 30% (depending on the applica on), as well as a signicant reduc on in the cost of installa on and materials required. This document presents the energy saving and economic advantages available with the use of the VCF_X4 valve specically designed by Aermec for 4-pipe fan coil unit systems. These innova ve 3-way valves are proposed as an alterna ve solu on to the double tradi onal 3-way valves normally installed in 4-pipe systems with terminal units equipped with double coils. Through VCF_X4 valve considerable energy savings can be obtained, thank to the only one coil use for hea ng and cooling purposes. The best benet of this solu on takes place, especially in the winter, where is available of a larger heat exchanger area, rather than the usual secondary 1 row coil. In this way the system is simplied and the installa on requirements are reduced, as well as signicantly improving the overall system eciency. This allows the energy sources, par cularly heat pumps, to operate with the highest seasonal energy eciency levels reducing consequently the primary energy consump on, as well as an improvement in the system performance of the building-installa on. Chapter 1 INTRODUCTION WHY SELECT A 4 PIPE SYSTEM. Main reasons to choose a 4-pipe system: • Service sector buildings growth headed towards architectural solu ons with large glazed areas and lightweight walls, characterised by a low thermal iner a. • An increased demand in the exibility of the use of space that creates a random component when dening loads. • Performance exibility and simplied plant: the possibility of extending the number of terminal units and hence the capacity of the installaon. In modern buildings for commercial sector, the systems using fan coil units with fresh air supply...

Chapter 2 VCF_X4: THE AERMEC SOLUTION FOR 4 PIPE SYSTEM The tradi onal terminal unit used for 4-pipe solu ons is the fan coil unit with double coil. This is supplied with a main larger coil (3 rows) for connec on to the chilled water circuit, and a smaller coil (1 row) which is connected to the hot water circuit. Each coil has a 3-way or 2-way valve to control the water ow rate. The opening of the valve is controlled by the thermostat and regulates the output capacity, in hea ng or cooling, to balance the demands of the space being condi oned.
