Wood Stove Operation and Maintenance Guide
Air Valve Operation: The wood stove operates optimally with the air valve open between 60% and 100%. It should never be closed completely to ensure visible flames and efficient combustion. Insufficient air can lead to poor combustion and higher emissions. The air valve also adjusts the automatic glass cleaning system to reduce soot accumulation.
Primary Air Lever: When adding new logs, the primary air lever should be open until the fire is well established. To prevent ash from falling when opening the door, open the primary air lever for about 1 minute before opening the door.
Aduro-tronic System: This patented mechanical system regulates combustion automatically without electricity, saving up to 40% of wood. It requires initial manual adjustment but then operates automatically to optimize combustion.
Ventilation and Fresh Air Supply: Adequate air supply is crucial for optimal stove operation. In airtight homes, opening a window or installing an air vent may be necessary to prevent smoke and ensure proper combustion.
Fueling the Fire: The stove is designed for intermittent combustion, requiring refueling only after a layer of embers has formed. Optimal combustion is achieved with logs of approximately 1.5 kg per hour.
First Ignition: Initial use may produce smoke and odors due to the curing of heat-resistant paint. Ensure proper ventilation and avoid intense fires during the first few uses to allow the stove structure to adjust.
Wood Type: Use hardwood logs stored outdoors for at least a year with moisture content not exceeding 18%. Avoid burning treated wood, paper, or waste materials to prevent environmental harm and stove damage.
Chimney Requirements: Optimal draft is between 10 and 14 Pa, or 18 to 25 Pa for natural draft. Factors like external temperature and wind can affect draft, and the chimney should extend 40 cm above the roof ridge.
Maintenance: Regularly inspect and replace worn vermiculites, clean glass with a damp cloth and ashes, and ensure seals are intact. Empty the ash pan before it is full, leaving a layer of ash for insulation.
Chimney Specifications and Recommendations
The document outlines the optimal conditions for chimney draft, which should be between 10-14 Pascal (Pa) immediately after the stove exit and 18-25 Pa under natural conditions. Factors such as external temperature, wind, and nearby buildings can affect the draft. A minimum draft of 5 Pa is recommended during ignition, increasing to 18-25 Pa for optimal combustion.
Chimney Draft Issues
Problems with draft may arise if the chimney is too short, has leaks, or is poorly insulated. It is advised to check the draft both during ignition and when the system is hot. If issues persist, using more fire starters or an optimizer like Aduro DraftOptimizer is recommended.
Smoke Emission
Smoke may escape from the stove if the chimney is cold or due to changing weather conditions. It is advised to warm up the system with small wood pieces if the chimney has been unused for a long time.
Wood Stove Maintenance
Regular maintenance includes checking and replacing worn gaskets, inspecting the combustion chamber lining, and cleaning the glass with specific products. The stove should be maintained only when cold, and the ash drawer should be emptied regularly.
Cleaning and Repairs
The stove's surface, treated with heat-resistant paint, should be cleaned with a vacuum or soft cloth. The interior and chimney should be cleaned at least annually. Surface scratches can be repaired with heat-resistant paint available from authorized dealers.
