WINDOWS in the UK: Sliding Sash Windows Replaced with Accoya® Wood for Hospital Project “based upon the first phase performance a further 91 windows were installed in the second phase.” Gill Best, Deal Hospital Project Manager The scenario: Victoria Hospital part of the UK’s NHS (National Health Service) located in Deal, Kent began replacing their existing windows in summer 2008 due to rot and decay and also significant coating degradation” In phase 1, 103 sash windows were replaced, using approximately 25m3 of Accoya® wood, finished with an opaque white Teknos coating. Revisited: The result: After 2.5 years the Accoya® wood windows show no sign of rot, decay or coating degradation. There was also no difficulty in opening and closing of the windows as was experienced with those previously installed. Given the excellent performance over 2.5 years of the windows replaced in Phase 1 a further 91 Accoya® sliding sash windows were installed in Spring 2011 replacing a mix of PVC and wooden windows.
