Airflake
Airflake, designed by Stefan Borselius, is a modular system made from felt-laminated moulded fibre felt. It is assembled using small plastic clips and can be hung on ceilings or walls with an aluminium rail. The production process is environmentally friendly, with no emissions to air, water, or soil, and the sound absorbent filling includes recycled materials.
The system is based on a hexagonal shape and offers a variety of designs and colors. It allows for the creation of flexible hanging screens that enhance visual dynamics and reduce unpleasant sound reflections. The degree of openness and transparency can be adjusted by combining the modules in different ways.
Abstracta provides a tool for designing custom configurations at http://conf.abstracta.se. The Airflake products can be used to create transparent rooms within a room, with the openness determined by module combinations.
Airflake modules come in different sizes: 360x400 mm for standard configurations and 600x700 mm for the Airflake XL.
The Equivalent Sound Absorption Area is measured at 1.4 m2 Sabine for the Airflake, with detailed acoustic performance data available at acousticsfacts.com. The product effectively diffuses and absorbs sound across various frequencies.
