Product catalog summary
Project Overview
ABG, in collaboration with Southern Geosynthetics Supplies, provided 23,000m² of Pozidrain 7S250/NW8 for the construction of the Cell 6 Final Cap at Wollert Landfill, Victoria. The landfill, operational since 2000, serves various waste disposal needs across Victoria.

Specifications and Materials
Pozidrain is a high-performance drainage geocomposite featuring a robust HDPE core and a non-woven filter geotextile. It offers superior drainage by allowing water flow in all directions and maintaining drainage voids under pressure. The rolls are available in 4.4m or 5.5m widths, facilitating easy installation.

Project Details
  • Distributor: Southern Geosynthetics Supplies
  • Client: Hanson Landfill Services
  • Designer: Golder Associates
  • Contractor: Cornfoot Bros Civil Contractors
  • Products Used: Pozidrain 7S250/NW8
  • Total Quantity: 51,000m² across various phases

Advantages
  • Eliminated the need for 51,000 tonnes of crushed stone
  • Provided significant cost savings
  • Enabled rapid installation
  • Delivered superior drainage performance

Installation and Technical Support
The installation involved lightly tack welding the textile overlap to secure the rolls before backfilling. ABG's Technical Department assisted with interface friction analysis. The capping treatment included a geosynthetic clay liner, a 1.5mm LLDPE liner, and Pozidrain drainage, topped with a 1m thick layer of 40mm NDCR scalping.

Figures and Testing
Figures 1 and 2 illustrate geotextile intrusion tests on geonet-based drainage sheets under 35kPa pressure. Figure 3 shows reduced intrusion with a cuspated core, maintaining void continuity under load.

Pozidrain Case Study-1

Pozidrain Case Study Wollert Landfill, Victoria, Australia ABG in partnership with distributor Southern Geosynthetics Supplies supplied 23,000m² of Pozidrain 7S250/NW8 for the construction of the Cell 6 Final Cap at Wollert Landfill, Victoria. Since its opening in 2000, Wollert Landfill has been providing the safe disposal of waste for households, as well as commercial, industrial and demolition businesses across the state of Victoria. The landfill is constructed in cells that hold about 500,000 tonnes of waste and take 18 months to fill. Once a cell is complete, the landfill gas collection system is installed before any permanent capping is put in place. ABG in partnership with Southern Geosynthetics Supplies has previously supplied Pozidrain to Wollert Landfill and was again called upon to supply its trusted geocomposite drainage system for Cell 6. Pozidrain is a sustainable, economical and environmental alternative to traditional construction methods which involve the use of large quantities of quarried filter stone. This created valuable additional landfill void. Pozidrain is a high-performance drainage geocomposite comprising a robust single cuspated HDPE core with a non-woven filter geotextile bonded to either one or both sides. The 4.4m or 5.5m wide rolls make installation quick and easy without the need for specialist plant. A geotextile flap along the length of the roll

allows adjoining rolls to be simply butt-joined. On this project the contractor chose to lightly tack weld the textile overlap with a Leister gun to ensure the rolls stayed in position prior to backfilling. ABG Technical Department assisted in the interface friction analysis. Pozidrain was included as part of a three layered geosynthetic permanent capping treatment. The crosssectional build up comprised a geosynthetic clay liner (GCL), a 1.5mm LLDPE liner and Pozidrain geocomposite drainage. A 1m thick layer of 40mm NDCR scalping completed the cap of the landfill cell. Figures 1 and 2 - shows...
