“Form follows light” The new generation of downlights
2LIGHT is a result of the search for a deliberately unusual solution. 2LIGHT is actually significantlydifferent to conventional down-light systems. Not only because
of the marked flexibility of thesquare modular system, but es-pecially because of the unique,
one might even say revolution-ary, lighting effect produced bythe direct light emanating via
the reflector and by the addi-
tional diffuse light component. This is made possible by theinnovative functional principle of
splitting the reflector in the lumi-naire unit. The brilliant “corona”,which is visible from certain
angles only, adds perfection tothis very special aesthetic light-ing quality.Another novelty with 2LIGHT isthe closed luminaire unit which
can easily – without the use oftools – be opened completelyusing the Easy-Clean catch,
that is to say complete with
the reflector unit. This
1. The story of the downlight startedwith the use of the relatively inefficientincandescent lamp in combination withdark light technology. The problem was
a poor light output ratio, a “black hole”

depth. >

ation with the directional light provided recessed depth. Wide-angle lightdistribution thanks to large reflectordiameter. Problem: relamping isdifficult, the reflector can easily be
damaged in the process.4. Unique for downlights in combin- by 2LIGHT, the additional soft lightcomponent creates entirely new lighting aesthetics. Relamping, main-tenance and cleaning can be done easily without the use of tools. DESIGN 2LIGHT HARTMUT S. ENGEL >
“The functional idea of ‘reflectorsplitting’ has enabled the devel-opment of 2LIGHT, a pioneeringgeneration of downlights cha-
racterised by a unique mixtureof diffuse light and direct reflec-tor light and by a surprisingly
lively and sensual character.”
