YS:Are you confident that TaskSystems can continue to achievehigh growth levels? TD:Yes, very. I’m not saying that we willincrease turnover by 50% each year:
that would be extraordinary. But I amconfident that we will continue to growstrongly. There’s such a buzz where
we are based in Shoreditch that it’s
impossible not to be optimistic aboutthe future. YS:A buoyant market on its owndoesn’t explain your success. What is it about Task Systems that customers respond to? TD:I think it comes down to the servicewe offer: the fact that we can address
every aspect of an office fit-out from
space planning to installation andsupport. Our professional specifiersand space planners can create the
ideal workplace for any type ofbusiness. They have a thoroughknowledge of the technical aspects of a building and a large productportfolio to choose from. Ultimately,we promote beautiful working
environments for clients: it’s not about squeezing as many people aspossible into a small area, it’s aboutsupplying the right product, in the right place, with the right spec. >
a record year
YS: Do you think that businesses are paying more attention to the working environment? TD:Undoubtedly so. In April we hosted aKnowledge Counsel seminar on thechanging workplace and the keynote
speech by RIBA President JackPringle was entitled ‘They Want It All’. I think that’s absolutely right: clients
want to get best value from the spacethey occupy by increasing occupancylevels, but they also want to provide
staff with inspirational, comfortable
working environments that include the break-out areas and social spacesthat today’s high earners expect. Our Unity
bench manufacturers is a great example of how we can satisfy both impulses. It provides a fantastic working
environment for employees, whilstgiving organisations the chance toaccommodate different densities. >
Your Spacespoke to Tony Daltrey , joint ManagingDirector of Task Systems, about the companies record year.
YS:A record year, a growing client list,a new showroom: great things seem
to be happening at Task Systemsright now. TD:Yes, they are. We’re in the middle of areally successful trading period. To
increase our turnover by 50% in just12 months after 25 years of trading isa great achievement. It’s something
we’re all very proud of. YS:How have you achieved this? TD:One of our strengths is our proximityto the City. We are just 5 minutes from
Liverpool Street and all around us the
skyline is changing. It is a very buoyantproperty market: businesses in thefinancial sector are feeling confident,
they are expanding and they aremoving offices. In addition, we havebeen very active building relationships
with the A&D community and this, too,is starting to pay dividends. YS:But you don’t just deal withbusinesses in the Square Mile. TD:No, absolutely not. It is true that theCity is a major focus for us, but weoperate nationally – occasionally even
internationally. Nor do we just deal
with financial organisations: we havecustomers in all business sectors andcan produce office designs to suit any
corporate culture. Just look at ourclient list. >
