In 1906, the City of Amsterdam bought the dilapidated building and provided a drastic restoration, completed in 1911 at the occasion of the Rembrandt exhibition, when Queen Wilhelmina opened the museum. On May 1998, a new restoration which included also the luminaries (Spotlight) and the opening of two exhibition galleries, the secretarial department, offices and the library, with the Rembrandt Information Centre.
