In SCIA«STEEL-plan the project planning is drawn up for the project and for the involved resources. The following parts and possibilities are provided:
■ Project planning, tasks up to three levels included
■ Resource planning for all source groups and resources which can be freely specified
■ Automatic JIT-algoritm for project-proces-planning
■ Automatic ASAP-algoritm per resource, taking into account limiting project conditions
The project planning offers the possibility to define all tasks of a project or contract line, progress time and resource utilisation included. Afterwards these projects are rearranged in phases and planned for assembly and dispatch phases, which are typical for the steel construction industry.
Plan-Templates allow the speedy realisation of a very detailed project plan, based on quantities (e.g. ton, m2,..) and a start and end date. For various types of construction (building bridges, halls, contemporary staircases, floors, ...) a different Plan-template is saved. Automatically, all necessary tasks for this type of construction and their progress times are built up. The exact resources and their resource time are also calculated. As there are no identical or static projects, these plannings can be adapted at all times.
In order to make the presentation recognizable and to make communication with project relations possible, a standard linking with MS-Project is foreseen. When necessary, this can be extended to other planningsystems of other disciplines.
In steel construction, capacity planning is very important. A lot of attention has therefore been devoted to this item. The principle is that project planning generates the limiting conditions for resource planning. Within these limiting conditions, the resource planner can freely indulge himself when planning for the realisation of the project.This involves multi-project-resource planning.
The system is a multi-user-system as well as a client-server-application. A responsibility structure is the base of the use of the planning system. The persons in charge of the project and of the resources are defined. The person in charge of the resources can NEVER have an influence on the project planning, this remains the responsibility of the project planner. Upon capacity conflicts, an internal communication system is activated. In this way, all people involved receive all necesary information at their disposal so action can be taken.
As modifications in steel construction are the rule rather than the exception, each state can be saved in the history. With this recordings, one can immediately check who, when and why, adapted a planning. It is also useful for reporting to customers, additional tasks and prolonged deadlines can more easily be justified.
