Salvaged from a temple in
Thailand which an earthquake
had damaged beyond repair,
spectroscopic dating places
theses timbers at 250 years old.
“The monk came to take leave of an old friend, the wood
that until a few days before, had been part of his temple. He
approached the beams and planks that we had so painstakingly
and respectfully removed from the fallen structure. He looked
at the ancient columns, still proudly displaying a patina of green
pigment. Serenely he placed his hands on the wood, nearly
caressing it, and said goodbye.”
