Tradical® Hemcrete® Designer?s Information Pack. - 1

Tradical® Hemcrete® Designer’s Information Pack. This pack of information from Lime Technology Ltd is to assist designers and contractors unfamiliar with the material regarding issues of appropriate detailing and their impact on the construction. Training of the installers in the correct application of this innovative material is essential and a condition of the product warranty. Tradical® Hemcrete® is an insulation material that works in conjunction with a structural frame (normally timber) to provide a wall build system. Generally it is only used on the external envelope walls where the highest thermal insulation standards are required. The thickness of the wall determines the design insulation value of the wall, with thicker walls providing better insulation values however they can take significantly longer to dry thoroughly. Cured and dried Tradical® Hemcrete® is a Vapour-Permeable (Breathable or Vapour-Open) material that as a minimum must be able to easily pass moisture to the external atmosphere and preferably also through the internal face of the wall. The choice of external finishes has considerable impact on how the framing is to be arranged for ease of construction. Directly applied render is the most cost-effective finish, but requires the Tradical® Hemcrete® to be suitably dry before application and so rain-screen solutions (which have a well ventilated cavity) offer a potentially faster building system as external finishes can be applied prior to the completed drying. As with most insulation products, Tradical® Hemcrete® is not suitable to receive fixings that generate high point loadings, so if further layers in the construction are required outside the Tradical® Hemcrete®, an element of the timber frame is exposed on the outside of the Tradical® Hemcrete® section to provide the fixing background. Tradical® Hemcrete® can also be used in roof applications and has excellent characteristics to prevent summer overheating. Please contact our office for further guidance on this application. This guide is made up of a number of stand-alone sheets (listed below) and consequently there is some repetition from one section to another. There is a complimentary guide that covers the details of installation issues (Installation Information Pack).

Tradical" Hemcrete" is a revolutionary building material that actually locks away C02 within the wall construction to create better-than-zero carbon buildings that require minimal heating or cooling. Tradical* Hemcrete" is a cost effective, mainstream green building product that can actually help to combat climate change. It does this in two ways: Firstly, the exceptional thermal performance and air-tightness of walls constructed using Tradical* Hemcrete" mean that buildings do not require additional insulating layers. This means buildings can run with minimal heating and avoid the need for...

Tradical Better-than-zero carbon Tradical" Hemcrete' captures more carbon from the atmosphere than is created in its production and application. Approximately 110kg of C0; equiva'ent is captured in every cubic metre of Tradical" Hemcrete' wall mix. This means that building with these highly insulating products allow better than zero carbon buildings to be created. Building with Tradical* Hemcrete" really can help comba: global climate change. Clayfield, Elmswell, Suffolk Spray application of Tradical' Hemcrete* was specified for this 26 unit housing project with Orwell Housing Association....

Not all Hemp-Lime Products are the same! Product Information Sheet Hemp-lime or ‘hempcrete’ is the broad, generic title for a multitude of mixes containing (as a minimum) a lime based binder and the inner woody core of the hemp plant. The materials are mixed with water and this then sets to form a solid mass. The resulting mix has characteristics depending on the particular constituents, their grading, the relative ratios of the constituents in a mix and the method of application. We are all familiar with concrete and the great variability of properties and applications it can be put to....

Thermal Performance - Tradical® Hemcrete® is primarily an insulation material for the external envelope of a building. Thermal conductivity Tradical® Hemcrete® has the best thermal conductivity of any hemp-lime product on the market (k or λ = 0.06W/m.K) and this means that Tradical® Hemcrete® walls can deliver excellent U-values. Thermal Bridges The standard details developed have very good psi values and consequently give very low Y-values. This will help in achieving good SAP ratings and achieving good thermal performance. Thermal Mass Tradical® Hemcrete® is unusual as an insulation...
