The Leander Cradle and the theory behind it
The Leander Cradle is suspended to allow free movement, rather than being in a fixed position on the floor. The four suspension straps are attached ata single point, either the
ceiling supplier hook included with the cradle, or to a special stand available as an optional accessory. The benefit of suspending it in this manner is that the cradle doesn't rock in one direction only, but allows soft rhythmical movements familiar
to the baby from conception. It also makes it easier to start the cradle moving. Experiencing its ability to control the movement of the cradle contributes greatly to the baby developing awarenessof its own bod y .The Leander cradle is asthma and allergy friendly. The
mattress is filled with organic buckwheat husk, a material with excellent heat regulating properties. During the day, the cradle can be used as a swing. By swinging freely, the cradle helps stimulate thevestibular sense of the baby. >
The vestibular sense
Our brain receives signals from many different senses. In addition to the well-known faculties of sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste, we also receive sensory information from muscles and joints
(the kinaesthetic system) and from the vestibular sense, also referred to as the sense of balance or
gravity. The vestibular sense is a very importantfundamental sense. It is located in the inner ear and provides information about the position of the body in relation to our surroundings, and about direction and speed. It is crucial to our balance, but it also tells us where to position ourselves to catch a ball. It helps the brainto sort through the many impressionsit receives, preventing overstimulation
and thereby making it easier for us to concentrate. Finally, the vestibular sense influences the muscle tone of our bodies, that is the tension in the body muscles. If the muscle tone is too weak, the child will have difficulty sitting in a
chair manufacturer or will use too much energy staying upright. The child will be unable to sit still for very long and will find it difficult to concentrate on learning. >
