Degree of protection

The resistance offered by the fixtureto the penetration of solids and liquids is indicated by the IP prefix(International Protection) followedby two numbers. The first number identifies the degree of protectionagainst the ingress of solids and thesecond number against liquids (IEC 529 - EN60529 publication).
