A key pad and 4-line display with 20 characters form part of the operator interface system. These two components are used to monitor, display and modify the data being processed by the Control Unit. The measuring system consists of an electronic module for each single-phase line that continually tests the mains voltage and the output voltage to the bulbs in order to maintain a constant balance.

In addition to a saving in power consumption, the system also offers a substantial saving in the cost of maintaining controlled systems. This involves specifi cally reducing voltage peaks and imbalances which reduce bulb lifetime so that less staff intervention is required. 4 – The Display System 5 – Control Modules Fitting a control unit with a REN fl ow regulator ensures energy consumption savings of up to 35% compared to a directly powered lighting system. These results were measured on public streets lit with sodium vapour bulbs. The voltage supplied to the bulbs by the central panel is controlled and maintained constant by an electronic microprocessor system. 3 – Maintenance Cost Savings The electronic control unit is connected to the mains from which it obtains data required for constant monitoring of voltage, power and phase displacement, which is then forwarded to the display panel. The unit includes a state-of-the-art microprocessor that controls and manages all system signals. The signals are forwarded to the external controls in accordance with instructions mapped in its operating program. The control unit is equipped with a non-volatile memory for storing all main system data and allows for the possibility of downloading the data onto a PC for processing and fi ling. The REN light fl ow control system is designed to be applied in all existing multiple lighting electrical systems namely: roads, carparks, parking areas, diffuse lighting areas in public and industrial applica- tions. This system does not require street lamps suppliers to be turned on alternately, a situation that creates hazar- dous darks areas, but ensures a signifi cant reduction in power consumption while maintaining constant lighting throughout the street. The control system with REN light fl ow regulator is designed to be applied in the fi eld of public and in-dustrial lighting, a sector that has become increasingly sensitive to energy problems and energy costs. The system meets energy saving requirement by adjusting the technical specifi cations of all electrical lighting bulbs that can undergo voltage changes within certain limits without determining signifi cant changes in the lighting effects perceived by the human eye. Another two points of technical signifi cance:1) the REN system is automatic and may therefore operate in accordance with preset hour bands; 2) the REN system is programmable and may therefore be used in different places with different volta- ge values. 2 – Energy Saving 3 – The Electronic Control Unit 1- Application Fields
