Harmony between vision glass and spandrels for architectural use: Vision glazing

Thermobel Stopray can be incorporated into all types of facade: - conventional curtain wall. - structural glazing (glasses bonded to the building struc-ture).- point-fixed structural glazing (contact Glaverbel). It is up to the designer to play with the harmonies and contrasts between the vision glasses and spandrels. The spandrels indicated by Glaverbel are recommendations; they are meant to serve as a guideline to help achieve the desired effect. Other solutions are available. It is impor- tant to assess the selected solutions on-site using suffi- ciently large prototypes.

Spandrels

For many Thermobel Stopray glasses, spandrels are avail-able in either monolithic glass or insulating glazing. These solutions make it possible to achieve excellent aesthetic harmony with the Stopray vision glazing used (see general Thermobel Stopray performance modern table).• Toughened or heat-strengthened enamelled monolithic glazing: Colorbel. This glazing can be assembled into sandwich panels and boast excellent U-values.• Insulating glazing: These consist of a pane of exterior Stopray and a pane of interior Blackpearl.

Thermobel Stopray is particularly well suited for use in roofs and sky domes: • Its neutral coatings filter natural light without denaturing it. Seen from the inside, the outside environment looks natural and unchanged; colours are reproduced faith- fully.• Although the level of solar radiation is normally very intense on roofs, Thermobel Stopray keeps it low and under control. This helps save on home air conditioning costs. Thanks to their wide range of solar protection levels, their highly neutral appearance and their low level of light reflection, Thermobel Stopray glazing can be used in a great many applications: residential structures (individual homes, etc.) or tertiary structures (offices, commercial buildings, etc.). Thermobel Stopray also offers a wide variety of shapes (triangle, trapezium, etc.) and sizes.
