SOFA MEETINGA BoConcept sofa must be able to meet several needs. It must be able to fit into big rooms as well as small city flats. It must be perfect to sprawl on when watching TV or reading a book - and comfortable to sit in when working on your laptop or having a cup of coffee. Finally, as a piece of furniture in a global concept, it must be an outstanding design. Most people would back away, but furniture designer, Anders Nrgaard, simply thrives on these challenges. Together with BoConcept, he provides ideas for a large number of BoConcept chairs and sofas. One of these chairs has just received the red dot award in the category product design 2008. See page 4.

The soft centre 'I love sofas. They form the ideal gathering point in most homes. The soft element that's used for so many things. So it must be hard-wearing. And comfortable, too. Rules that must be followed when a new sofa is being created. But at the same time, the soft lines of a sofa are a play zone enabling us to create a unique piece of furniture that oozes character and personality. It's the centre of the living room,' explains Anders N踸rgaard.'Whenever I travel around the world I get a kick when I see one of my sofas in a BoConcept Brand Store. The sofa combinations vary greatly from one region to another, and the cover can change the look of the sofa completely. It is quite a humbling experience to see your design interpreted differently throughout the world in Norway, New Zealand and New York.' Front seats This year, Anders Nָrgaard also launches a new sofa line. With its voluminous shapes and characteristic stitching, the Como sofa has a very futuristic look. 'The new Como sofa oozes power and has a raw yet refined look. The characteristic stitching is inspired by form-fitting clothes,' explains the designer.As with the rest of the BoConcept sofa collection, Como is based on a modular system, which offers the consumers the possibility to build their very own sofa. However, the system does not contain more modules than necessary. 'Designing a sofa with 200 modules is easy. But how are the customers supposed to get an overall view? The challenge lies in achieving only a small number of modules that can be combined in numerous ways. This way we offer our customers a simple modular system, and we have done our job.'
