for floor heating and household water is then
extracted through this clever heat pump. The
ventilation system ensures that the heat from
the rooms is also regenerated and through this
entire system the energy consumption on the
houseboat is more than half that of a regular
household.
When it came to decorating the houseboat,
BoConcept stylist Lene Rønfeldt took her
inspiration from the structure itself. What
immediately struck Lene was both the
tranquility and sense of freedom you get inside
the houseboat – the clean, modern lines of the
structure combined with the stunning views of

INTERIOR PLAN MEETING IN THE STORE
the water around it offered plenty of scope to
be creative with colors and shapes. 'I chose
furniture with curvy details and accessories in
natural water colors and wood to accentuate
the basic premise behind the boat itself' Lene
explains. To help the owners visualize how the
furniture would look in the space, Lene created
3D renderings of each room.
Open spaces
The houseboat is a true example of open-plan
living. Using the panoramic windows as her
starting point Lene Rønfeldt wanted to ensure
that the furniture was always directed towards
the best views of the harbor outside. For
storage, open-ended room dividers were used
to avoid blocking any of the light or views. Rugs
and groupings of furniture were incorporated
to define the different areas while still keeping
everything in the same color tones to create
a coherent style. 'With open-plan living, it's
important to remember that you can see
through to the next room and that everything
has to be in harmony. Otherwise, you can end
up with a very chaotic and confused look,' Lene
Rønfeldt explains.
'The rooms are so light and airy, that it allowed
for the distinctive living chairs to really come
into their own. But more importantly, the
chairs are designed with swivel bases, so you
can always turn around to look out at the
scenery outside. Finally, positioning the Imola
chair under the skylight, created the perfect
spot to relax and take in the view of the stars
overhead.'
At the moment, the houseboat is on show for
the partners who contributed to its design and
interior space. After that, the boat will become
a home where the owners can enjoy their
extraordinary piece of floating luxury.
