DIAMOND CUT
Finish of a stone sawn by a machine with a diamond wire. The stone surface shows typical saw cut markings: small waves or cuts of only a couple of tenths of a mm deep. These markings are parallel with each other, in the direction taken by the saw or the wire.
HAND HONED
Hand honing is mainly applied on more hardwearing natural stone to remove the saw markings (diamond cut see above). This mechanical finish is done dry, with the help of abrasives with carborandum, with diamonds or similar abrasives or also with diamond honing plates while being sprinkled with water. The surface is smooth (without saw markings) with fine (visible or less visible) circular stripes, without one direction in particular.
FLAMED
Flames are brought into contact with the (wet) sawn slab of natural stone in this typical mechanical finish. This finish is processed before cutting to size as it can only be processed on big surfaces. Visible and covered edges cannot be flamed. The flames are directed obliquely and to the whole surface. The temperature shock causes the eruption of the grains on the surface, which gives the typical texture. This is a finish mainly done to hardwearing natural stone.
