As a child I was fascinated by toys with in-built energy, like wind-up tin cars. Much of this fascination can be recognised in the tensioning force and movement mechanism of the Ahrend 350: a static object changing into a dynamic whole as soon as somebody sits down on it. Man was made to move; even when sitting down. The ‘owner’ is not a constant but a variable; that was the greatest challenge when designing this chair furniture.
